First joint meeting of Greek and Cypriot experts’ committees on Cyprus File on Monday

The first joint meeting of the experts committees of the Parliament of Cyprus and Greece on the Cyprus File will take place on Monday 26th of February in Nicosia. The Cyprus File, contains evidence and other material collected by the Hellenic Parliament relating to the events that shook the island in 1974, the coup which was followed by the Turkish invasion.

The experts committee on the Cyprus File of the Greek Parliament arrives on Monday in Cyprus for three joint sessions with the relevant committee of the Cypriot House of Representatives, in an attempt to finalise the last pending issues for the publication of the Cyprus File. The publication is expected to take place in the spring.

During their joint meetings, the two committees will deal with the final drafting of the texts, the timetable of the publication and technical issues, which are largely resolved.

The Republic of Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Prior to the invasion, the then military junta ruling Greece engineered a coup against the legal government of the Republic of Cyprus.
