FinMin in Prague for Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings

Minister of Finance Constantinos Petrides departs for Prague, Czech Republic, to take part in the Euro area Finance Ministers meeting (Eurogroup) and the informal EU Finance Ministers meeting Ecofin.

According to a press release issued by the Finance Ministry, during the Eurogroup meeting the Eurozone Finance Ministers will discuss with the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) Chairperson the macroeconomic developments in the Euro area, the energy sector and inflationary pressures and their effects on fiscal policy.

The Finance Ministers will also be briefed by the ECB on the progress concerning the digital euro as well as the progress by other Central Banks on digital currencies.

In the informal Ecofin meeting, the Finance Ministers will discuss Ukraine’s financial needs due to the Russian aggression and will also exchange views on how to mitigate the effects of the energy crisis, as well as a possible EU-wide coordination.

On Saturday, September 10, the Finance Ministers will be called on to exchange views concerning the safeguarding of long-term fiscal sustainability in the EU as well as the direct taxation framework in Europe.

Petrides returns home on Saturday.
