FinMin and Ambassador of Ireland discuss strengthening of economic ties

Cypriot Minister of Finance Makis Keraynos and Ambassador of Ireland to Cyprus, Connor Long, discussed Thursday ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Cyprus and Ireland. According to a press release, the Minister of Finance and the Ambassador of Ireland in Cyprus who met at the Ministry of Finance, exchanged views both on issues of European interest and on ways to further strengthen ties in matters of economic cooperation. The Ambassador of Ireland congratulated the Minister on assuming his duties and assured that economic cooperation between Cyprus and Ireland will continue, both within the European Union and on a bilateral level. He pointed out his country’s readiness to deepen relations with Cyprus, especially concerning the exchange of good practices in dealing with the challenges that the two countries face. He also made a brief presentation of Ireland’s candidacy to host the newly established European Anti-Money Laundering Authority. The Cypriot Minister briefed the Ambassador on the state of the Cypriot economy and stressed that the new government is committed to implement an economic policy in the context of strict fiscal discipline and financial stability. At the same time, he agreed on the need of close cooperation, coordination and exchange of views at the European level.
