EU must seek social growth and cohesion, Cypriot MP tells an Interparliamentary Conference

Cypriot MP Skevi Koukouma has stressed the need to reject austerity policies, as well as the need to change the EU direction, with a view to achieve social growth and cohesion.

Speaking during a discussion on the reinforcement of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) social dimension, during a meeting of the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the EU, Koukouma underlined that the EMU has the achievement of fiscal discipline as its top priority and therefore, it can be said that it constitutes a tool to impose it.

Referring to the will to achieve a more social Europe, Koukouma said there is lack of will by the EU and the Council to achieve this goal, noting that this is the case as regards powerful economic circles of the EU.
