EU leaders support Cyprus proposal on sanctions, anonymous source tells the press in Sibiu

President Nicos Anastasiades has asked his EU counterparts to examine concrete measures against individuals and companies involved in exploratory drilling in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, a diplomatic source which wished to remain anonymous, told the press in Sibiu.

Leaders including Viktor Orban (Hungary), Dallia Grybauskaite (Lithuania), Stefan Loefven (Sweden) and Alexis Tsipras (Greece) voiced their support for the Cyprus request. According to the source, Chancellor Angela Merkel said she supports the interests of Cyprus, but these sanctions were not discussed at the informal Council.
