EPP parliamentary group condemns Turkeys provocative and illegal actions in Cyprus exclusive economic zone

The European Peoples Party (EPP) parliamentary group in the European Parliament “condemns Turkeys provocative and illegal actions in the Republic of Cyprus exclusive economic zone”, according to a written statement issued in Brussels, warning with that the whole spectrum of EU-Turkey relations will be negatively affected by such actions.

The EPP Group of MEPs, “simultaneously urges Turkey to immediately put an end to these activities and allow the ENI to continue unhindered its work that is fully in line with international law.”

“We express our support for the Republic of Cyprus, highlighting its sovereign rights to research and exploit its natural resources, in line with the EU acquis and international law, including UNCLOS,” the EPP MEPs said. “The continuation of these hostile actions and Turkeys lack of concrete and unquestionable commitment to good neighborly relations in the Eastern Mediterranean will negatively affect the whole range of EU-Turkey relations,” they stress.
