Employment increased yearly by 0.4% in September 2022, mainly due to casual staff

In September 2022 total government employment increased by 193 persons, or 0.4% in comparison to the corresponding month of 2021 and reached 52,601 persons, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus. Permanent staff decreased by 782 persons, by 3%, and fell from 26,392 to 25,610 persons. At the same time, casual staff increased by 925 persons, or by 5.3% and reached 18,518 persons compared to 17,593 persons in September 2021.

 

According to the data, an increase is observed in staff from all personnel categories, with the exception of Security Forces staff, which decreased by 2.1%. The highest increase is observed in Educational Service staff, up by 2.5% and is attributed to the increase of casual staff, that increased by 13.1%, compared to the previous year.

 

Compared to August 2022, a decrease is observed in all personnel categories, with the exception of Educational Service staff, which is increased by 1.5%. Once again, the increase is attributed to the increase of casual staff that is up by 8.5%.
