Elderly woman found dead in hospital dumpster in France

ANKARA: An 85-year-old woman with dementia who had been admitted to the emergency room of a hospital in southern France because of seizures was found dead two days later in a dumpster in the basement of the facility, the La Provence newspaper reported Thursday.

She had been brought to the hospital in the city of Aix-en-Provence by her daughter on Feb. 23 but was reported missing later that night.

On Feb. 25, she was found dead by the daughter in a dumpster in the basement of the hospital.

The daughter said she went to get a drink while her mother was being treated, and when she returned about an hour later, her mother had been moved from the emergency room.

Her daughter returned home after nurses told her that they could not take her to the department where her mother was being treated. She later received a phone call from the hospital and learned that her mother had disappeared.

As soon as she arrived at the hospital, she asked the administration to check the security cameras.

The hospital’s management
said the employee in charge of the security cameras was on leave and that they did not have the password to access them.

On Feb. 25, the daughter started searching for her mother at the hospital with her cousin, who is a firefighter, and found her mother’s body in the hospital dumpster in the basement.

The incident triggered reactions on social media, and the Aix-en-Provence Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation.

The daughter blames the hospital for her mother’s death for not giving her access to security cameras.
