Eide: We are trying to make the best of the visit of the UNSG to Crans Montana

The discussion on the issue of security and guarantees at table 1, in the UN-facilitated Cyprus peace talks, will continue on Thursday at 12 (Cyprus time) in the presence of the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

In statements to the press, Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide, said that we are trying to make the best out of his visit and that there will be continuous preparations tonight and early tomorrow morning for that.

As he said, the discussion will resume in the presence of the Secretary General tomorrow around 11 (Switzerland time).

He also said that they have all agreed not to comment on the inner workings.

Asked how long they will be staying in Crans-Montana, Eide said there’s no answer to that before tomorrow night.

On Wednesday evening, there was a discussion on security and guarantees at table 1, in the presence of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

The talks aim to find a negotiated settlement that would reunite Cyprus, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, under a federal roof.
