UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide will hold separate meetings with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Wednesday morning.
Eide who returns to the island tonight will meet with Anastasiades at 0815 local time (0515 GMT) and at 1000 with Akinci.
UN-facilitated peace talks are currently underway with a view to reunite Cyprus under a federal roof. President Anastasiades and Akinci met last Wednesday, in the framework of their negotiations, and both tabled their own proposals to move things forward.
Anastasiades told a televised press conference on Monday evening that he proposed to go immediately to Geneva, to convene a Conference on Cyprus for the completion and conclusion of the discussion on the Chapter of Security and Guarantees, then proceed immediately to the discussion and resolution of the property issue, if and when there is a conclusion, and then stay in Geneva for as long as necessary and hold a continuous summit of the leaders, in order to achieve not just substantive progress, but even the comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem as well.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
