The UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide has described his meeting with Ibrahim Kalin, assistant to the Turkish President and Press Secretary of the Turkish Presidency, as very constructive.
Eide wrote on his twitter account that the conversation focused on the prospects of reconvening the Conference on Cyprus.
A very constructive conversation with @ikalin1 at @trpresidency on prospects for reconvening #ConferenceOnCyprus he wrote.
The meeting took place in Ankara where Eide is holding contacts.
Eide is in Ankara in an effort to move the Cyprus peace process forward, following an impasse in the past several days. UN-facilitated negotiations are underway between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci to find an agreed solution that will reunite the country under a federal roof, which has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
