Effort to determine fate of missing persons to continue until the last case, says Photiou

We will continue with our effort to determine the fate of our missing persons, until the very last case, Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou said on Sunday.

Addressing a religious service, in Nicosia, for those from the village of Kontemenos – now in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus – who perished for their country, Photiou said that almost 850 Greek Cypriots are still missing and Turkey is not cooperating as if its own responsibilities may be hidden or forgotten with the passage of time.

The Presidential Commissioner also noted that discoveries of remains belonging to Greek Cypriots and Greeks who went missing are being reduced dramatically year after year.

Addressing those present at the service, Photiou promised to continue the fight for justice. He added that the aim is to find a viable and functioning Cyprus solution, without Turkish guarantees and intervention rights and with human rights and fundamental liberties secured.
