Education Minister meets with the Ambassador of China in Cyprus

The Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Costas Kadis, had a meeting yesterday, 7 April 2017, with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Cyprus, Mr Huang Xingyuan. During the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador conveyed to Minister Kadis an invitation by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Mr Wang Yi, and the Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, Mr He Lifeng, to participate in the International Cooperation Forum “One belt, One road”, to take place in Beijing on 14-15 May 2017.

Minister Kadis thanked the Chinese Ambassador for the special honor and stressed the importance of the opportunity the two countries have to sign the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Education, Qualifications and Academic Titles.

The Minister of Education noted that the relations between Cyprus and China are very close in all fields and will be further enhanced in the field of education. This Agreement, he underlined, will strengthen the cooperation between the Universities of the two counties and will create more opportunities for the movement and the exchange of students, academic staff and researchers.

Ambassador Huang reiterated the importance given by the Chinese side on the enhancement of the cooperation of the two countries in the fields of education and culture.

He also presented to the Minister of Education and Culture the program of cultural events, organized by the Embassy of China in Cyprus, aiming at the promotion of the culture of China in Cyprus.

Mr Kadis expressed the readiness of the Ministry to support the events and examine ways to further deepen the cooperation in the field of culture.
