Education Minister holds contacts in Vienna

The Minister of Education and Culture, Mr Costas Kadis, is paying a visit in Vienna, on 24-25 November 2016. In the framework of his visit, Minister Kadis met, on Thursday, 24 November 2016, with his counterpart, Mrs Sonja Hammerschmid, Minister of Education of the Federal Government of Austria.

At the meeting, the excellent level of the relations of the two countries was reaffirmed and views were exchanged on the reforms promoted in the two education systems. The Ministers also discussed further actions for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries on Education, Arts and Culture. Special emphasis was given to actions regarding the upgrading of the technical and vocational education and training, the education on the environment and the sustainable growth and the teaching of the German language in Cyprus.

Then, Minister Kadis met with the Federal Minister for Arts and Culture, Constitution and Media, Mr Thomas Drozda. During the meeting ways were discussed for the promotion of the articles of the Memorandum of Understanding of the two countries on arts and culture, focusing on the exchange of artists and the joint participation in European programs. Also, issues related to the European Cultural Capital Pafos 2017 were reviewed, as well as the cooperation of the two countries in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

On Friday evening, 25 November 2016, the Minister of Education will attend the great annual “Cyprus Concert”, organized by the Cypriot Cultural Center in Vienna and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The concert will take place at the world famous Musikverein in Vienna.
