EDEK President hopes winner of elections will address effectively the Cyprus issue and internal governance

Movement for Social Democracy EDEK President Marinos Sizopoulos said on Sunday that his party hoped whoever won the presidential elections would effectively address a series of issues, such as the Cyprus problem and internal governance.

Speaking after casting his vote at a polling station in Limassol, in Sunday’s run-off presidential elections, Sizopoulos said today the new President of the Republic of Cyprus is being elected and we hope that the experience that should have been acquired by the mistakes of the past will help him effectively address the problems and challenges awaiting him, both regarding the Cyprus issue and internal governance.

Sizopoulos referred to “the Turkish provocation with the withdrawal of the map” which the Turkish Cypriot side submitted at the UN-led peace talks in January last year, and expressed hope that the new President will immediately withdraw the concessions tabled at Crans Montana negotiations in July last year.

He said EDEK is ready to contribute constructively for the effective handling of all these issues.
