Diaspora leaders of Cyprus, Greece and Israel to meet on February 26 in Jerusalem

Diaspora leaders of Cyprus, Greece and Israel will hold a round table discussion on February 26 in Jerusalem. The event will take place in parallel with the Jewish Agency for Israel Board of Governors meeting, taking place on February 24-26.

The Cypriot delegation, headed by Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou, will comprise National Federation of Cypriots in the UK President Christos Karaolis, President of the Cypriot American Organizations Federation, Kyriakos Papastylianou, and Executive Director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council Endy Zemenides.

Photiou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the decision for organizing this round table discussion with the participation of three diaspora leaders from each country was taken in the framework of the trilateral cooperation among Cyprus, Greece and Israel on diaspora issues.

He noted that the diaspora leaders will discuss about how Cyprus, Greece and Israel could cooperate more effectively at all levels, as in politics, youth issues, entrepreneurs’ cooperation, tourism and cultural events.

They will discuss about the implementation of projects concerning diaspora issues, he noted, as well as about a visit which young people from the diasporas of Cyprus, Greece and Israel will pay to the three countries, during the summer, to get to know them and to get to know each other.

Moreover, he noted that the diaspora leaders will discuss about the cooperation they are planning to begin into university campuses in the UK, USA and other countries among students from the three countries.

Photiou also said that they will participate in the Jewish Agency for Israel Board of Governors meeting. More specifically, Photiou and the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Terens Quick, who will head the Greek delegation, will address the closing plenary session of the meeting on February 26. The Israeli delegation will be headed by the Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel Isaac Herzog.

On Wednesday February 27 the delegations of the three countries will meet with the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin, while on Monday February 25 the Cypriot delegation will attend a dinner with the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III.
