Demetriou expresses Parliament’s deep sorrow for untimely loss of Turkish Cypriots at earthquakes

President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou has expressed the deep sorrow of the Cyprus Parliament for the untimely loss of Turkish Cypriots during the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and conveyed sincere condolences to the Turkish Cypriot community.

Referring to the earthquake during a special session of the Parliament, Demetriou said that among the victims of the February 6, 2023 earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, where more than 40,000 people lost their lives so far, there are 49 Turkish Cypriot compatriots.

She said that the victims of the Turkish Cypriot sports mission, young students and their companions, amount to 35, while another 14 Turkish Cypriots, who were in other cities of Turkey, also lost their lives in the ruins.

“On behalf of all the members of the House, I express our deep sorrow for the untimely loss of our compatriots and I extend our sincere condolences to all members of the Turkish Cypriot community,” she concluded.
