Defence Minister travels to Malta for the informal meeting of EU Ministers

The Minister of Defence, Christoforos Fokaides, departs on Wednesday for Malta, to attend the informal Meeting of the Ministers of Defence of the EU member states.

A press release issued by the PIO says that during the meeting, the progress of the Implementation Plan on Security and Defence will be discussed, as well as the collective efforts to address the serious migration problem in the Central Mediterranean.

Ministers will also focus on the implementation of PESCO, the ways to increase the operational readiness of the EU Battle Groups and the operations of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in the Central Mediterranean and Libya.

Cyprus Minister and his EU counterparts will also visit the EUNAVFORMED SOPHIA shipwreck, where the Commander of the operation will brief the Ministers on the main activities of the operation and the situation in the Central Mediterranean.
