Defence Minister discusses bilateral cooperation with senior Israeli official

Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides met on Monday with Zohar Palti, the head of the Political-Military Bureau at Israels Ministry of Defence and discussed bilateral cooperation in military exercises and armaments.

Moreover, during a meeting of the Cyprus-Greece-Israel trilateral coordinating committee in Larnaca, it was decided to hold the next Trilateral Ministerial Summit in Cyprus.

Cyprus and Israel also agreed on their bilateral defence cooperation programme for 2018.

According to an announcement transmitted by PIO, Fokaides and Palti met today in Nicosia and discussed the potential for cooperation in research and technology though joint programmes.

They also exchanged views on the latest developments concerning the regional security environment.

Fokaides underlined the major upgrade in Cyprus-Israeli relations during the past few years, reflected in the memoranda of understanding, the drills and the joint training programs undertaken by the two sides.

Palti pays a visit to Cyprus as the head of the Israeli delegation that participates in the 1st meeting of the Permanent Coordinating Committee, established during the Trilateral Ministerial Summit, last November in Athens.

At today’s meeting in Larnaca, it was decided to hold the next Trilateral meeting before the end of the first semester of 2018, in Cyprus.
