Defence Minister Angelides to pay official visit to Israel

Defence Minister Savvas Angelides departs for Israel on Wednesday for an official visit.

An official press release said Angelides, who will chair a delegation, will be received at the Israeli Defence Ministry for talks with his counterpart, Avigdor Liberman.

The delegations of the two ministries will discuss bilateral affairs and ways to strengthen relations, issues concerning regional security and Cyprus’ role in the wider region as well as the Cyprus problem.

Angelides will also be received by Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and will visit Yad Vashem, Israels memorial to the victims of the Holocaust where he will lay a wreath.

The visit is a follow up to a series of visits by the Ministers of Defence of the two countries and is part of the framework to strengthen and upgrade the excellent relations of the Republic of Cyprus and Israel in the fields of Defence and Security.

The visit takes place two weeks before the tripartite meeting of Cyprus, Greece and Israel at a ministry of defence level.
