Cystat reports big increase in revenue from tourism

Revenue from tourism recorded a significant increase in the fifth month of the year and the first five months, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Monday.

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached Euros 291,5mn in May 2017 compared to Euros 244,7 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 19.1%.

For the period of January � May 2017 revenue from tourism is estimated at Euros 649,2mn compared to Euros 530,2 mn in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 22.4%.

The expenditure per person for May 2017 reached Euros 696,08 compared to Euros 670,64 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 3.8%. The expenditure per person/per day for May 2017 compared to May 2016 recorded an increase of 6.1%.

In May 2017 a decrease of 12.2% was recorded for the expenditure per person for tourists from the United Kingdom (from Euros 815,68 in May 2016 to Euros 716,04 in May 2017), 20.1% increase from Russia (from Euros 577,02 to Euros 692,76 this year) and 0.7% increase from Germany (from Euros 770,16 to Euros 775,23 this year).

The expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom recorded a decrease of 7.8% (from Euros 78,43 in May 2016 to Euros 72,33 in May 2017), the expenditure per person/per day for tourists from Russia increased by 17.2% (from Euros 70,37 to Euros 82,47) and for tourists from Germany it decreased by 2.5% (from Euros 81,93 to Euros 79,92).
