Cyprus Shipping Chamber celebrates “Day of the Seafarer”

The International Shipping Community celebrates every year on 25 June the Day of the Seafarer set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). This year’s Day of the Seafarer campaign is entitled Seafarers Matter and the IMO is focusing to engage ports and seafarer centres to demonstrate how much seafarers matter to them. The idea is for ports and seafarer centres to share and showcase best practices in seafarer support and welfare.

Within this framework, and in parallel to other activities amongst its Member-Companies, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, participated in this years celebrations for the International Day of the Seafarer, through the organisation of a Special Members Meeting, dedicated to the Day of the Seafarer, during which the Chaplain of the Mission to Seafarers (MTS) Centre at Limassol Port, Reverend Canon, Ken Wiseman, presented the worthwhile voluntary work that is being carried out for the welfare of seafarers.

It is estimated that, 55,000 seafarers are employed onboard the ships operated by the Member-Companies of the Chamber in Cyprus and the Cyprus Shipping family feels indebted to and proud of them. Seafarers and their families, deserve our appreciation and gratitude.
