Cyprus secures its sovereign rights aiming to promote its strategic goals, Defence Minister says

The Republic of Cyprus secures its sovereign rights with a view to promote its strategic goals, Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides has said.

Responding to a question on Saturday, the Minister said that by following an extrovert policy, by upgrading Cyprus geostrategic role through regional and strategic alliances and in the framework of its upgraded relations with its EU partners, the Republic of Cyprus safeguards the countrys interests and sovereign rights, with a view to promote its strategic goals.

He also stressed the need for Cyprus to continue its struggle aiming to terminate the historic and political anachronism of the occupation of territory and the violent division of an EU member state.

Cyprus, an EU member state since 2004, has been divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.
