Cyprus problem, inflation, Recovery and Resilience Plan on the agenda of the National Council’s meeting on Thursday

The latest developments in the Cyprus problem, inflation pressures due to the war in Ukraine, and Cyprus’ Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) will be on the agenda of the meeting of the National Council that will convene on Thursday, June 9, at 1030 local time, Director of Cyprus President’s Press Office, Andreas Iosif, said in a written statement.

According to Iosif, the Council will also discuss issues related to the need for approval and adoption of reforms in various fields, that constitute prerequisites in order for Cyprus to absorb the allocated European funds.

Apart from the leaders or representatives of political parties, the meeting will be attended by Ministers who are responsible for issues included in the agenda.

Iosif noted that in the framework of its RRP, Cyprus will absorb the amount of 4.4 billion Euros to the benefit of its citizens and the society, and will see an additional 7% to its GDP, while 11 thousand well paid jobs will be created.

Iosif also said that on June 7 President Anastasiades will address the Ministerial Meeting organized in the framework of his initiative to coordinate actions in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East to address climate change.

Anastasiades’ initiative concerns the setting-up of a regional action plan to address the repercussions of climate change with a view to coordinate a comprehensive regional effort, on the basis of the Paris agreement.

On June 8, Anastasiades will speak during a lunch, to be hosted by the Ambassador of France in Nicosia for the EU Ambassadors accredited to Cyprus, in view of the conclusion of the EU French Presidency.
