Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades departs on Thursday from New York for Rome where he will take part in an informal EU summit marking 60 years since the signing of the Treaty of Rome.
“In the evening of March 24, President Anastasiades, accompanied by his spouse Mrs Andri Anastasiades, will visit the Vatican where, along with the leaders of the EU member states, will meet with Pope Francis,” a Press and Information Office (PIO) press release said.
On March 25, the press release added, “the President of the Republic will participate in the meeting of the leaders of the EU member states in Rome and will attend the celebrations for the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.”
President Anastasiades is also set to attend a luncheon hosted in honour of the EU leaders by the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella.
He returns to Cyprus in the evening of March 26.
