Cyprus President receives Sorbonne University Rector

Gilles Pecout, Rector of the University of Sorbonne and of the Academy of Paris, who is paying Cyprus a visit, was received on Monday by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, at the Presidential Palace.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Education, after the meeting and accompanied by Minister of Education Kostas Champiaouris, Pecout was present at the signing of a twinning memorandum between Akropolis high school of Nicosia and the Queneau high school of Paris.

Addressing the event Champiaouris said that “twinning gives a new boost in our greater effort for an education which is extroverted.”

He expressed the conviction that “this twinning will offer many opportunities for mutual learning and will enhance the ties between our countries, stregthening cooperation prospects in various levels which can only have positive outcomes.”

On his part, Pecout noted that signing such memoranda frames the dialogue between the two countries education institutes and reconfirms the will for cooperation through action plans for the benefit of teachers and students.
