Ambassador Vasilis Philippou presented, on 13 December 2016, his credentials to the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, as the new High Commissioner of the Republic to that country, stationed in New York.
Presenting his credentials, the High Commissioner conveyed to President Carmona the warm greetings and appreciation of the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, as well as his wishes for progress and prosperity of the people of the country. He also had the opportunity to inform him on the Cyprus issue and the ongoing peace efforts. Lastly, Ambassador Philippou expressed his commitment to working for the reinforcement and consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in the sectors of tourism, education and shipping.
The President of Trinidad and Tobago assured the Cypriot High Commissioner that his Government would continue to consistently support the efforts of the Cyprus Government for the attainment of a viable and functional solution of the Cyprus problem. He also said his country’s Government is monitoring with great interest the developments as they unfold through the ongoing talks, expressing the wish that the process will be successful. President Carmona also thanked the Cyprus Government for providing scholarships to the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
