Cyprus JRCC participates in Greek SAR exercise “AETOS 2022”

The Joint and Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) of the Republic of Cyprus participated in “AETOS 2022” search and rescue exercise that took place on November 30, in the sea area between Rhodes and Kastelorizo.

According to a JRCC press release the exercise was conducted in an area within the Athens FIR, under the coordination of the Air Sector of the National Search and Rescue Coordination Centre of Piraeus.

It was conducted with the participation of Greek assets, the JRCC Larnaca/ops room, and one (1) AW-139 helicopter of the 460 SAR Squadron of the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the press release, the participation of personnel and assets in joint exercises highlights the close cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the Hellenic Republic and it demonstrates their readiness to undertake any SAR mission, where required. At the same time, they provide the opportunity for the practical implementation of the procedures included in the existing Greek and Cypriot Intergovernmental Search and Rescue Agreement.”
