Cyprus issue on the agenda of Syllouris – Laj?ak meeting

The impasse of the efforts for the solution to the Cyprus problem is the outcome of Turkey’s intransigence and non-constructive attitude President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris has said to Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajcak, who is paying a two-day working visit to Cyprus.

According to a press release issued by the Parliament, Syllouris stressed that Turkey insists on its occupying troops to remain on the island even after a solution of the Cyprus problem is reached.

The Slovak Foreign Minister reiterated his countrys firm position on the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the relevant United Nations resolutions, while conveying Slovakias readiness to contribute in any way to the promotion of dialogue in this direction.

House President reaffirmed the excellent level of long-term ties between Cyprus and Slovakia and their Parliaments, based on common principles and values, as well as on the feelings of mutual appreciation and solidarity between the two countries and the smallest Member States of the European Union.

Syllouris and Lajcak exchanged views also on the role of EU on the international political scene as well as on the situation in Syria and the wider region of the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa.
