Cyprus issue discussed between Syllouris and Second Deputy Speaker of Hellenic Parliament

The latest developments in the Cyprus issue following the Crans Montana Conference were discussed at a meeting the House President Dimitris Syllouris held on Thursday with the Second Deputy Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Yiorgos Varemenos.

Varemenos is in Cyprus attending the events which take place to mark the 43rd anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion which resulted in the occupation of the islands northern third.

Syllouris and Varemenos also discussed the political situation in Turkey and the events that followed the failed coup attempt in July 2016.

A round of UN-backed talks in Crans Montana, Switzerland took place between June 28-July 7 failed to produce any results. The peace talks under the auspices of the UN aim at reuniting the island under a federal roof.
