Cyprus, Israel and Greece joined forces on Sunday to deal with the repercussions of a destructive earthquake and its strong aftershocks that hit Cyprus, according to the scenario of the 5th phase of the Civil Defence exercise “Egelados 2017” which provided for a search and rescue incident.
The exercise got underway on March 7 and will conclude on March 16. Its main part began on Sunday March 12 and wraps up today, with the participation of the officers from Cyprus, Israel and Greece. The exercise is monitored by three observers from the US and one from Jordan.
On Monday part of the exercise was observed by the Ambassador of Israel to Cyprus, representatives of the Embassies of France and Greece and local officials.
Acting Civil Defence Commander Loucas Hadjimichael said that the main goal of the exercise is to see how all Civil Defence departments respond when acting jointly, something which they did very successfully.
