Cyprus Health Ministry to sign Joint Statement of Intent with the WHO Regional Office for Europe

Cyprus Health Minister, Michalis Hadjipantela, will sign on October 6 a Joint Statement of Intent with the WHO Regional Office for Europe for the establishment of a WHO Regional Office in Larnaca.

 

According to a press release issued by the Health Ministry, having a history of excellence on science and research, Cyprus implements policies which are based on scientific data and in this framework the Health Ministry has held consultations with the WHO Regional Office for Europe for the establishment of a WHO Regional Office in Larnaca. The objective is to further reinforce the relations of Cyprus and the upgrading of the public health both in Cyprus and the broader region.

 

The Health Ministry said that the Office is expected to deal with the following sectors: Enhance public health and upgrade readiness to address emerging and contagious epidemic-prone diseases, by promoting innovative activities aiming at the prevention, through the collection, dissemination and evaluation of epidemiological data.

 

Moreover, to develop policies in the field of Contagious Diseases and Animal Diseases, to promote actions and response mechanisms and to set up cooperation tools.
