Cyprus had no participation in Syria military operation, Spokesman says

Cyprus had no participation in the military operation on specific targets in Syria, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou has said in a written statement, noting that Cyprus’ airspace has not been used nor has Nicosia’s FIR or its air corridors been affected.

Prodromou also expresses the hope that dangers in the neighbouring country will from now on be dealt with by peaceful means and through dialogue.

In his written statement Prodromou refers to the operation by United States, France and Britain against specific targets in Syria in the early hours of this morning and expresses the view that it appears to be similar to the one that had been launched in April 2017.

Cyprus had no participation in this operation and conditions of full security exist in our country, he stresses.

The Spokesman also says that “the Authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have been monitoring the situation from the first moment, however, Cyprus did not receive any prior briefing.”

“The airspace (of Cyprus) was not used and neither its FIR or its air corridors have been affected for this operation,” Prodromou adds.

“We hope that it will subsequently be possible for military operations to be avoided in Syria and that sources of danger in this neighbouring country will be addressed by peaceful means and through dialogue,” he concludes.
