Cyprus FM and Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations

The Cyprus issue, bilateral relations and ways of further enhancement of bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues will be on the agenda of a meeting Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides will hold on Monday with Japans State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kazuyuki Nakane who is paying Cyprus an official visit.

According to a press release by the Foreign Ministry, during the meeting the two Ministers will look into specific ways of strengthening bilateral relations in areas such as trade, investment, tourism and crisis management. The Cyprus issue will also be discussed as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Later, Christodoulides and Nakane will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the reception, assistance and repatriation of citizens of the two countries in cases of crises. The two Ministers will then make statements to the press.

Nakane will be received the same day by the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades.

Nakane is visiting Cyprus to attend an official event for the opening of the first Japanese Embassy in Nicosia which offers significant prospects for the deepening of bilateral cooperation with a country, such as Japan, who is an important regional and international player.
