Cyprus could become a regional centre for management of natural disasters, Nouris says

The CyCLOPS training centre is now 100% Cyprus-owned and gives the country the opportunity to become a regional centre as regards the effort to help the broader region in matters of natural disasters, Minister of the Interior, Nicos Nouris, said on Wednesday.

In his statements after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Nouris, said that, this very important project that has been donated to the Republic of Cyprus, cost 7.5 million euros paid entirely by the US Government.

He noted that, the training centre is regional and is under the administration and coordination of the Civil Defence of the Ministry of the Interior, while they have already carried out and planned 30 training seminars for countries of the wider Middle East, including Cyprus, on issues pertaining to the competence of the Civil Defence, as regards natural disasters.

“We consider it a very important investment that has been made in our country”, he said. The centre in question, he added, is now 100% Cypriot owned and, gives Cyprus the opportunity to become a regional centre as regards the effort to help the wider region in matters of natural disasters.
