Cyprus and Georgia sign MoU on Education and Science

A Memorandum of Understanding in the fields of Education and Science was signed on Monday between Education Minister Costas Kadis and Georgia’s Minister of Education and Science Mikhail Chkhenkeli.

The signing ceremony was held in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia where Kadis is on an official visit at the invitation of his Georgian counterpart.

The MoU aims at strengthening cooperation in school education and in creating more opportunities for exchanges between students, academics and researchers. It will also contribute to make Cyprus an international educational and research centre.

The government, said Kadis, pays special significance to securing high level education. He also said that foreign academics and students highly appreciate Cyprus being a member of the EU and a recognised business centre.

The two ministers decided to promote an agreement for mutual recognition of Higher Education Diplomas, for Cyprus to offer its expertise on quality assurance and certification issues in higher education and cooperation to educate on issues concerning the environment and sustainable development, a press release from the Education and Culture Ministry said.

Kadis invited Chkhenkeli to visit Cyprus. The Cypriot minister also visited Tbilisi University where he discussed the possibility of cooperation with Cypriot universities, an initiative that was welcomed by the Georgian academics. He also visited the Tbilisi State University Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies.
