Our challenge and goal now is to deepen, strengthen and diversify the nature and scope of Argentine-Cypriot cooperation, said the country’s new ambassador, stationed in Tel Aviv, Mariano Caucino.
Presenting his credentials to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Caucino said though geographically far away, it must be stressed that Cyprus is close to our hearts: Argentinian participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), which has been going on for decades now, symbolizes at the same time Argentinas commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and our persistent support for a free and unified Cyprus.
The experience of living in Cyprus, on the other hand, has left an indelible mark of respect and love for Cyprus in generation after generation of Argentinian servicemen, which in turn have communicated it to their fellow countrymen back in Argentina.
Our challenge and goal now is to deepen, strengthen and diversify the nature and scope of Argentine-Cypriot cooperation, the Ambassador said.
Caucino also reaffirmed Argentina’s principled support to the efforts for the resumption of negotiations under UN auspices for a solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of International Law and in line with the UN Charter and the relevant United Nations resolution.
Receiving the credentials, President Anastasiades said that his Government looks forward to working closely with the new ambassador in building upon the excellent relations and strong bonds of friendship that exist between our two countries and peoples.
On the basis of our common principles and values, our two countries enjoy seamless cooperation in international fora, which notably extends to reciprocal support to each other’s candidatures, the President said.
He added that Cyprus is immensely grateful for Argentina’s long-standing and sizeable contribution with personnel to the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus, which serves the Mission with professionalism, distinction and ethos.
I avail myself of this opportunity to express my keenness to exploring new fields of beneficial partnership, as well as deepening and enhancing existing cooperation, for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples, he added.
