Cyprus added to an extra trans-European transport network, Karousos said before Transport Council in Brussels

“Connectivity is the foundation stone for everything we do, whether it is by sea, land or by air”, Minister for Transport Yiannis Karousos said upon arrival to the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport configuration) of the European Union which is being held in Brussels on Monday.

“That is why we are very happy because today we managed, we have secured and succeeded, that Cyprus will be added to an extra TEN-T corridor (note: trans-European transport network), the Balkan – Black Sea – Aegean corridor, in addition to the Western Balkans corridor, which is very important for the connectivity of a country like Cyprus” he added.

Karousos underlined that Cyprus is an isolated member state due to being an island. “That is why we are working so hard in order to improve our connectivity,” Karousos continued, pointing out that the general approach on this issue adopted by the Council today “opens a lot of prospects for future exploitation and many advantages for Cyprus”.
