Members of the House of Representatives participated in the deliberations of the 13th meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Meditteranean held in Rome.
In his intervention at the plenary, Cypriot MP Kostas Kosta, referred to the need for cooperation for the achievement of a socio-economic stability and prosperity in the Mediterranean, through the promotion of the goals of the sustainable development.
He added that located at the southeastern tip of Europe, Cyprus acknowledges the challenges but also the opportunities of its geostrategic position and has already forged a series of cooperation agreements with most of the states in the region.
According to a House press release, the Assembly discussed the role of the Union for the Meditteranean in strengthening the cooperation between its members with a view to achieve the goals of the 2030 sustainable development in the wider region of the Mediterranean. Participants also discussed about the creation of new jobs especially for the youth and women.
EU High Representative for the Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini addressed the Assembly, stressing the need to combat unemployment among the youth in the Mediterranean.
The delegation, which also comprises MPs Averof Neofytou and Georgios Prokopiou, returns to Cyprus tomorrow.
