Cypriot MP says PA OSCE members should use diplomacy to end hostilities in Ukraine

The members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) should make use of the potentials the parliamentary diplomacy to promote dialogue and end hostilities in Ukraine, member of the Cypriot Parliament Kyriakos Hadjiyianni has said.

According to a press release by the Parliament, the Cypriot MP, who attended the deliberations of the 20th OSCE PA Autumn Meeting that takes place in Warsaw, said that the Organisation’s members should also make use of parliamentary diplomacy to open new humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians, investigate the fate of missing persons, facilitate prisoner exchanges and continue the flow of humanitarian aid.

In his intervention during the discussion about the disastrous consequences of the war in Ukraine, he said that at this critical juncture the primary goal is to support and relieve the Ukrainian people, who are experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

Referring to Cyprus, he pointed out that despite the difficulties it faces as the EU member state with the largest number of asylum seekers in proportion to the population, it has welcomed more than 15,000 Ukrainian refugees since last February, offering access to housing, healthcare and education in accordance with the relevant EU directive.
