Cypriot MP participates in PAM mission in the Middle East

Cypriot MP Georgios Georgiou a member of the delegation of the House of Representatives to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean(PAM) is participating in a mission of the Assembly in the Middle East.

According to a press release issued by PIO, the PAM delegation comprising more than 30 MPs from Parliaments-members of the Assembly had a meeting today with the President of the Legislative Council of Palestine and the Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority.

MPs visited on Monday the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan where they were briefed by the head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on the situation of over 80,000 refugees that are being hosted there.

The mission traveled yesterday to Ramallah where it had meetings with Palestinian MPs and the head of the negotiating team of the Palestinian Authority Saeb Erekat.

PAM President stressed that the Assembly encourages the resumption of the dialogue between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and supports the two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state.

He also called illegal the colonization activities of the State of Israel in the West Bank.

Today, the PAM delegation will be briefed by relevant UN offices in the Middle East on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Middle East Peace Process and the Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon.

The missions program concludes this afternoon following a meeting between the PAM delegation and the president of the Israeli parliament Knesset Yuli Yoel Edelstein.
