Cypriot films screenings in Hellas Filmbox Berlin

Hellas Filmbox Berlin, which takes place from January 24 to 28 at Urban Spree, in Berlin, includes the screening of six Cypriot films.

The first Cypriot film is the 1996 “Slaughter of the Cock” directed by Andreas Pantzis, the 2006 “Soul Kicking” directed by Yiannis Economides, which was also screened in the Cannes Critics Week.

A decade later, the 2011 “Fishn Chips” directed by Elias Demetriou and the 2015 “Conveyor Belt” by Alexia Roider cast under a new light matters of identity but also alienation. The first film refers to the story of Cypriots living abroad who decide to return back to their homeland and the other tells the story of a lonely man seeking to find himself within the narrow boundaries of his apartment.

The 2016 documentary “The Sea Remains” by Christos Georgiou and Giorgos Koumouros tells the stories of ten people from the village of Yialousa and describes the Turkish invasion of 1974, while the 2016 film “Boy on the Bridge” directed by Petros Charalambous takes viewers back to the Cyprus of the 1980s when memories of the invasion are still present.

An Artists Forum will also take place during which the film “Marios Ioannou Elia – Sound of Vladivostok” by filmmaker Kostis Nikolas will be screened for the first time.

The screening of the six Cypriot films is supported by the Ministry of Education and Cultures Cultural Services.
