Croatian Foreign Minister says her country will promote Nicosia Convention

Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marija Pejcinovic, Presiding over the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, has pointed out the great importance of the Nicosia Convention regarding the protection of cultural heritage, assuring that Croatia, during its presidency, will promote it to the greatest extent.

Pejcinovic was replying to a question by Cypriot MP Stella Kyriakidou, Head of the Cypriot Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), during the meeting of the PACE Standing Committee in Zagreb.

According to a press release, Kyriakidou asked which actions the Croatian presidency intended to undertake in order to promote the signing of the Convention by more countries so that it can be implemented the soonest possible.

Kyriakidou also participated in a meeting of the Ad hoc Committee on the role and mission of PACE, of which she is Vice-President, also representing the EPP.

Inter alia, Kyriakidou pointed out the importance of the effective implementation of European Court of Human Rights rulings.
