The Council of Ministers ratified on Wednesday a proposal of the Ministry of Defence for the appointment of Lieutenant General Gergios Tsitsikostas as the new National Guard chief in succession of Lt. General Demokritos Zervakis. According to a press release by the Ministry of Defence, Tsitsikostas will officially assume his duties on Friday, September 8, the Armed Forces Day, in a swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Presidential Palace. Tsitsikostas will take over the leadership of the National Guard in a ceremony in National Guard camp in the afternoon of the same day, the Ministry added.
