European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides will be in Cyprus on 19 and 20 December, in her first official visit to a Member State since taking up her post in the von der Leyen Commission.
I am delighted to be visiting Cyprus in my first official mission as the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety. Further to the meetings planned with the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, the Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Demetris Syllouris and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health and Agriculture, I will take part in an open dialogue with citizens on issues relating to my portfolio and, more broadly, to the targets the Commission has set for the next five years in the areas of health and food safety. One such target is to get closer to the citizens, to give them the opportunity to tell us about their concerns. As President Ursula von der Leyen said, the European Commission aims to make a difference in citizens’ everyday lives. For me, this will be a key personal objective to achieve during my time as a European Commissioner said Commissioner Kyriakides ahead of her visit.
While in Cyprus, Commissioner Kyriakides will meet with President Anastasiades and Speaker of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris. She will also meet Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis and Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
Commissioner Kyriakides will also hold a Citizens’ Dialogue in Nicosia with the title Europe close to its citizens: Health and Food Safety.
