The European Commission has approved an approximately 7-million-euro Cypriot scheme to support sheep and goat breeders who have been affected indirectly by Russia’s invasion against Ukraine, it was announced on Tuesday.
This aid will consist of limited direct grants, which are intended to support the liquidity needs of sheep and goat breeders, affected by the current geopolitical crisis.
The grants will not exceed 250 thousand euros per beneficiary and will be granted no later than 31 December 2023, which the Commission found to be in line with conditions set out in the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework.
The scheme was approved under the State aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, adopted by the Commission on 9 March 2023 to support measures in sectors which are key to accelerate the green transition and reduce fuel dependencies.
