New trilateral meetings in Nicosia next January

New trilateral meetings will be held in Nicosia next January, government sources have told CNA, following a publication in Phileleftheros newspaper. Specifically, the leaders of Cyprus, Greece and Israel will meet in Nicosia in the first ten days of January, while in the second ten days of the month a trilateral meeting between Cyprus – Greece – Jordan will also take place in Nicosia. The same sources told CNA that consultations with Lebanon in order to organize a trilateral Summit between Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon, is at an advanced stage, although no date has yet been set due to the recent political developments in the country.

EU should enhance Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism, Cyprus President says

Regional developments and terrorism were the focus of a telephone conversation between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides posted on twitter. In statements to the press during his visit in Solea region, earlier on Saturday, the President conveyed a message that the European Union should enhance Egypts efforts to fight terrorism.

President: We will not accept any solution that would collapse the next day

We do not accept any solution that will collapse the day after agreement is reached, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said on Sunday, adding that no one wants that and no one wants to live in uncertainty. Addressing a memorial service in the community of Pachna, in Limassol District, President Anastasiades assured that the government’s goal is not to find a solution which would not meet the expectations, concerns or claims of the Greeks of Cyprus.

House President discusses deepening of bilateral cooperation during China visit

House President Demetris Syllouris discussed further deepening of the cooperation between Cyprus and China during of his contacts with state officials in Shanghai. Syllouris, who is paying China a visit, met on Saturday with Speaker of the local parliament of Shanghai Yin Yicui, a Parliament press release says.

The House President was accompanied, as in all his meetings outside Beijing, by Chinese Peoples Institute of Foreign Affairs Vice President Liang Jianquan.

EBA: Increase in coverage ratios in Cyprus may lead to higher reduction in NPLs European Banking

Authority (EBA) expects that the increase in coverage ratios in Cyprus may lead to a higher reduction in Non Performing Loans (NPLs) in the following quarters, something that was also noticed in the banks of other European countries. In its Risk Assessment Report for November, EBA says that an analysis of the short term historic time series shows that a sudden increase in coverage ratios at bank level is usually followed by a higher reduction in NPLs in the following quarters.

Tourist arrivals will exceed 3.6 million in 2017, says CTO President

Tourist arrivals in 2017 will exceed 3.6 million, Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) President Angelos Loizou has said, stressing that the performance of the tourism sector has again created a demand for additional beds in the tourist industry. Loizou was addressing an event in Limassol, hosted by CTO in honour of its associates in Cyprus and abroad which was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades and the Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis.
