Anastasiades – Tsipras hold meeting in Brussels, discuss Cyprus issue

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras have held a coordination meeting on Sunday in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Council meeting. Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said that President Anastasiades briefed Tsipras on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue, adding that they reaffirmed the coordination between the two countries as regards the expected developments with a view to resuming the Cyprus negotiations.

Brexit deal not a landmark to be happy about, as an important state leaves the EU, Spokesman says

The agreement reached on Sunday on the coordinated withdrawal of the UK from the EU is not a landmark to be happy about, as an important Member State leaves the EU, Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said, speaking to the Press on the sidelines of the Brexit Summit in Brussels. Referring to Cyprus, he said that Nicosia is pleased that the Protocol on the British Bases, which is part of the withdrawal agreement, ensures the smooth continuation of the implementation of the EU acquis communautaire in the area of the sovereign british bases , in the fields provided by Protocol 3 of the act of accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU.

Remains of seven missing persons at Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital identified

It is our moral and human obligation to return the remains of the Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital missing persons to their families, so they can proceed with their burials and come to a closure, Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou has said. The Hospital was bombed by the Turkish forces in July 1974, during the Turkish invasion against Cyprus. A total of 32 people were buried in the area and so far the remains of 17 victims have been found in two different locations. Eleven people were found in a mass burial site behind the morgue and six other persons were found in three different sites nearby.

Education Minister in Brussels for Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council

?ducation and Cutlure Minister Kostas Champiaouris travels to Brussels on Sunday to attend the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council to take place 26-27 November. The EU Ministers will discuss issues related to EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027, the recognition of diplomas of tertiary education and secondary education as well as the European Education Area.
