Barnier and Christodoulides see increased danger of disorderly Brexit

The risk of the UKs disorderly exit from the EU is rising as the non-ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) continues, acknowledge EU Brexit Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier and Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, following a bilateral meeting yesterday morning in Brussels, ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, (FAC). During the meeting, the Foreign Minister assured Michel Barnier of the importance Cyprus attaches to the 27 unity, and they agreed that the WA cannot be renegotiated.

Cypriots satisfied with their lives, but do not trust political parties, eurobarometer shows

Cypriots say they are satisfied with their lives but they do not trust political parties, the national analysis of the Autumn Eurobarometer shows. According to the results, which were presented on Monday in Nicosia by Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Ierotheos Papadopoulos, 85% of Cypriots said they were satisfied with their lives compared with an EU average of 83%. The Irish are the most satisfied in Europe (97%) and the Greeks are the most unsatisfied with only 49% of Greeks replying they were satisfied with their lives, the survey found.

FMs participation in Dublin meeting on Mideast peace process, important

Cypriot Foreign Ministers participation in a meeting hosted in Dublin on Mideast peace process is important, given the significance Cyprus attaches to the Middle East region and the positive role it can play, a press release issued on Monday by the MFA says. Christodoulides expressed Cyprus readiness to aid and assist the EUs efforts in Syria as the EU member state which is neighbouring Syria.

Cypriot and Russian FMs to discuss Cyprus problem, bilateral ties, EU-Russia relations

The Cyprus problem, bilateral relations between Cyprus and Russia, relations between the EU and Moscow as well as developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region will be the focus of the talks which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulides, will have on February 22nd with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow. Christodoulides told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that during their talks the two ministers will have the opportunity to review the two countries’ bilateral relations covering a broad spectrum of issues and exchange views on them.

Cyprus residents trips abroad increase by 11% in January 2019

Cyprus residents that returned from a trip abroad in January 2019 amounted to 119,570 compared to 107,759 in January 2018, recording an increase of 11%, based of the Passengers Survey conducted by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. The most significant change in January 2019 was the increase by 70.1% recorded in trips to Russia, that stood at 8,979 in January 2019 compared to 5,278 in January 2018.

Prices of construction materials up by 1.61% in January

Prices of Construction Materials in January 2019 recorded an increase of 1.61% compared to January 2018, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus. The Price Index of Construction Materials for January 2019 reached 101,45 units (base year 2015=100.00), recording an increase of 0.29% compared to December 2018.
