Turkey seeks to deal with Cyprus problem outside UN resolutions framework, Nicosia says

Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, is seeking to prepare the ground for dealing with the Cyprus problem outside the framework of the UN decisions and resolutions, speaking always about other options, even though he does not clearly rule out a federal solution, something which creates concern and may mean that particular consultations will have to take place on the terms of reference issue, a government source had told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

Lakkotrypis travels to Houston for CERAWeek 2019 and contacts in the field of energy

Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Yiorgos Lakkotrypis travels Tuesday to Houston, Texas to take part in the International Energy Conference CERAWeek 2019. CMP seeks information on missing persons in UK visit

The members of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) plan to visit the United Kingdom on the 18th -19th March, for official meetings with various UK Government departments, agencies and NGOs. The aim of the working visit is to secure assistance in collecting information pertaining to the missing persons of Cyprus from 1963-64 and 1974. They hope to achieve this through consulting various archives and files in the UK.

Cyprus and Greece record third and fourth lowest fertility rates in the EU for 2017

In 2017, 5.075 million babies were born in the European Union (EU), compared with 5.148 million in 2016. In Cyprus 9 229 babies were born in 2017, 46.6% were “first children”, 36.9% second, 12.7% third and 3.8% fourth and subsequent. Out of the 4 254 first borns in Cyprus, 2.9% were born to mothers under 20 years old, 49.9% to mothers between 20-29, 44.5% to mothers 30-39 and 2.7% to mothers 40 and over.

Volunteers collect close to 2 tonnes of recyclables after carnival parade

Volunteers collected nearly 2 tonnes of recyclable waste after the Carnival parade in Limassol, on Sunday, NGO “Friends of the Earth Cyprus” has said. Post-parade recycling operation, organised by the NGO with the participation of 23 volunteers, lasted 4 hours and covered a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometres, it has written on Facebook. “Using an electronic scale, we calculated the amount of recyclable materials collected at 2,800 kg (nearly 3 tonnes). It was clearly an odd race against time, considering the fact that carnivalists and spectators exceeded 140,000 people this year,” it notes.
